Brothers Ryojiro & Junichiro Tsuchiya honed their appreciation for maguro, or tuna as Hawaii knows it, while working at the famous Tsukiji Fish Market in Japan. Today, they celebrate this fish and share it with Hawaii at their two restaurants in Chinatown and Waikiki, bringing the freshest fish straight from the auction to customers.
Since 2014, they’ve kept things simple and high-quality, focusing on made-to-order sashimi and poke with their own special flavors, offering catering options for sharing with an appreciative crowd.

What is unique about a family business?
It’s not always easy and there are a lot of small decisions, some fighting and arguing, but we always keep going to make something happen. Like or not, but you have to keep going, and only the family can do that.
Owning a restaurant has its challenges, whether staffing or location. So we use our experience and really focus on good quality fish at an affordable price. We’re always thinking about the customer, and always thinking about the prices because food is so expensive in Hawaii nowadays, but also always bringing good quality.
How has Hawaii National Bank helped you grow your business?
When we were looking for new locations and trying to expand and grow the business, it was challenging especially in a market like Waikiki. Really being able to have reassurance from the bank, like does that sound like a good idea? And having them to support us along the way and help us get set up was very important. They worked with us to figure out what worked best for our business.
