  • What is the best age to sign my child up for Seed?

We recommend Seed for children beginning at about 12 years old. We encourage talking to your child about the importance of financial responsibility and how to use a debit card. An adult co-owner is ultimately financially responsible for the account so every parent should decide what’s right for their child and family.

  • How can my child get a debit card without being 18?

Seed is specifically designed for children under the age of 18. However, because your child is underage, a parent (or adult guardian) needs to be share ownership of the account. Your child will receive their own debit card, and can register for their own Online and Mobile Banking access. As the adult co-owner, you will be financially responsible for the account.

  • Do I need to bring my child with me to open up the account?

Yes, both you and your child need to physically come into a Hawaii National Bank branch with the proper documentation to sign up.

  • Can I set daily spending limits?

Yes, daily limits can be set at account opening. The defaults spending limits are:
    • $100 daily ATM cash withdrawal limit
    • $200 for debit card purchases
Changes can also be made by calling eBanking at (808) 528-7800.

  • Can I set up mobile alerts to be notified when my child uses their debit card?

Yes, you can set email and mobile alerts through Online Banking. Click on “Account Alerts” under the Accounts tab.

  • Will I able to view all account activity?

Yes, in addition to monthly eStatements, you can view all transaction activity 24/7 through Online Banking or the Hawaii National Bank mobile app.

  • What happens if my child loses their Seed debit card?

If your child loses their debit card, please notify us immediately. During business hours, (Mon - Fri 8am - 5pm) call 808-528-7800. After hours, call 800-528-2273. If outside of the U.S., please call 812-647-9794. Your child can also turn off their debit card through the mobile app, using their Mobile Banking login credentials.
